Lets hope not. According to Deseret News, talks have begun about the possibility of adding Walmart down in Moab Utah. Personally I am not opposed to Walmart stores, but I think that Walmart does not belong everywhere. Especially in small tourist towns such as Moab.
You see Moab Utah exists with its own little economic system just fine. however, if you throw a large, oersized corporate store into the mix, it will ruin a lot of local business. Competition is healthy, but monopolization is destructive. Walmart would absolutely crush local merchants, and local economy. If the stor attracted more visitors to the town, maybe it could be justified. But nobody will visit Moab because of Walmart, and therefore it will be an additional strain on the town.
It will be interesting to see how it plays out in the future.

Very well said! We have a Wal-Mart 1.5 hours away; that's close enough, especially in the age when people can order online if they are desperate for something that can't be had in town.
An 1.5 hour away is a lot of fuel to have to use to be able to get better prices than offered locally. Come on people we deserve to not have to spend all that time and fuel on the road. The locals are being taken advantage of with the tourist prices. What about all the emissions being put into the environment with the travel to get somewhere to be able to buy at better prices? A local Wal-Mart would put a stop to that. Just because it would be here doesn't mean you would have to shop at it. Keep the tax money here.
I absolutely disagree, when the local stores are so overpriced that I can bearly feed my family something like Wal-Mart would be a god send...next time you morons write something about Moab maybe you should live here first...Wal-Mart would do nothing to hurt the local economy because the local economy is driven by tourist items not groceries...
Did anyone ever stop to think that, if WalMart is determined to put a store in this area and the Moabites choose not to have it, WalMart would just put it right next door in San Juan County and all of the taxes would go to that county and it would still be close enough for tourists and locals to go to it. Where do we want the money to end up - In Grand County or San Juan County?
It is a Federal Law that if you have a community or region with over 5000 people you have to have a Wal-Mart within 10 mile driving distance! Get with the program people!
FU*K ING HIPPIES! ! I DEMAND A WALMART RIGHT NOW!!! I LIVE IN MOAB AND I'M SICK AND TIRED OF DRIVING TO GRAND JUNCTION JUST TO BUY ACYRLIC PAIN COME ON PULL YOUR HEAD OUT OF YOUR FAT ASS GIVE THE PEOPLE WHAT THEY WANT
Tourists shop at Walmart too.Its a known entity, and easy to shop at. It would absolutely hurt local businesses like Walkers and City Market and others. Yes,it's prices are better, but don't deceive yourself that it wouldn't hurt local businesses.
